Aquilla Condemns Fresh UniUyo Cult Crisis, Meets with 22 Student Groups

…says proscription of cultism in A’Ibom still operational

The Special Assistant to Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Aquilla Otobong Akpan has condemned the recent crisis in the University of Uyo which resulted in the death of some students.

Comr. Akpan who condemned the crisis Wednesday while addressing no fewer than 22 student groups in a thank you meeting at Ibom E-library, Uyo also frowned at the cases of rape and public assault on women in Akwa Ibom State University.

The Governor’s aide urged students and members of university community to remain calm and law abiding, assuring that necessary measures have been taking to return normalcy on campuses.

We condemn in totality the recent crisis in Uniuyo which has resulted in some deaths. We also condemn rape case in AKSU. We are in talks with necessary bodies so calm will return to our campuses. Governor Udom Emmanuel is a peaceful man and he wants us to learn in a peaceful atmosphere.” she said.

She advised students to be security conscious and to avoid keeping bad companies, soliciting maximum corporation and relevant information to security agencies in order to combat cultism, killings and rape on campuses.

She also advised students to focus on their academic activities and appreciated them for supporting the re-election of governor Udom Emmanuel for second term.

Thank you for not allowing yourselves to be used by politicians. His excellency is proud of you. Even when the enemies came with problems to do something funny, you stood firm to support his excellency. Thank you very much.”

The students leader explained that Governor Udom has recorded tremendous achievements in the education sector by creating enabling environment for learning, rehabilitation of school blocks, payment of WAEC fees for SS3 students, assuring that more will be achieved in the second.

His excellency has done much in academic sector for the future of the state. Today, college of education in Afaha is now a degree awarding institution, free and compulsory education in primary and secondary schools, payment of WAEC fees for SS3 students and massive renovation and rehabilitation of schools.”

At the meantime, the governor’s aide interacted with no fewer than 22 student group leaders to listen to their appreciation, challenges and complain in order to find a lasting solution that will promote peace and togetherness on campuses.

She presented bags of rice donated by Governor Udom Emmanuel to the students, in the spirit of the 2019 Easter celebration and described the Governor’s re-election as victory for the students’ community.

Each student group took turn to congratulate Governor Udom Emmanuel on his return to the Hilltop Mansion and lauded Comrade Aquila Akpan for remaining unwavering, despite trying times.
