Be Good Custodian of Peace, Live a Healthy Life – Dr. Edet tells Royal Mothers

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Agriculture and Women affairs, Dr. Glory Edet has charged royal mothers in the state to exhibit good characters, be custodians of peace and pay more attention to their health.

Dr. Edet handed the charge down to the royal women and mothers at a One-day Seminar organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and held at the Women Development Centre, IBB Way on Monday with the Theme, Royal Women and Healthy Living.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs applauded the royal mother for finding time to attend the event, stressing that the essence of the programme was to educate them more on good health practice, personal development and the culture of peace which is the bedrock of development in any society.

She thanked the wife of the state governor, Mrs Martha Udom for being an ambassador of peace to the women, for advocating for more women inclusion in government and carrying them along in the scheme of things in the state.

While applauding the royal mothers for their efforts in raising their children as good citizens of the state, Dr. Edet stressed that it was imperative for them to pay more attention to their health so they can live healthier and longer lives, adding that they should also act as role models of discipline, attitude and self-control to the younger women.

She thanked the governor Mr Udom Emmanuel for being a champion of peace, giving women a listening ear and ensuring they are given a prestige place in his administration.

Also, wife of the Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mrs Itohowo Bassey in her speech called on the women to play active roles in sustaining peace and development in the society.

She lauded the organizers for the initiative and charged the royal mothers not to relent in their efforts by raising godly children who would preserve the culture, norms and traditions of peace already existing in the state.

She further appealed to the women to put into practice necessary health tips offered at the event and advised them to remain hardworking, prayerful and supportive to their families.

The keynote speaker, Mrs Bassey Eshiet who was handy at answering all the questions reeled out by the royal mothers charged them to adhere to all the health tips taught them at the seminar, adding that practices that put their health in danger should be avoided.

Eshiet tasks the women to ensure that while leading a healthy life, cultures that promote societal ills should be frown at by advising their children and family members against drug abuse, alcoholism and cultism.

Eshiet urged the mothers to particularly condemn harmful practices on the girl child and said those still practicing acts like the Female Genital Mutilation would be brought to book by the state government.

Meanwhile, during the interactive session the women were taught on the need for good sleep, essence of drinking water, good food habit and other health tips that would improve their health status and keep them free from illnesses.
